No formal training is required of any ham
willing to participate in NEWS, nor do we expect it of you.
There are a number of very good training
programs available for those hams who want to learn more about
Emergency Communications (EmComm). The ARRL offers 3 levels of
EmComm training: EC-001, EC-002, and EC-003. Information about
these courses can be found on the ARRL website:
www.arrl.org.
For those who are interested in learning more
without any cost, we are providing a link to an on-line training
guide for EmComm written by Dr. John A. Allocca, WB2LUA, who is the
ARES Emergency Coordinator and the RACES Radio Officer for the Town
of Huntington in Suffolk County, NY. He has graciously allowed us
the capability to link to and use his training manuals. Please feel
free to avail yourself to them.
For more information about EmComm training,
please contact Mike Lisenco, N2YBB, at
n2ybb@arrl.net. Or contact your
local ARES Emergency Coordinator.
